Elementary School Counselors implement the school counseling program by providing:

  • Peer relationships, coping strategies and effective social skills

Services school counselors provide:
  • Classroom Counseling Connection lessons
  • Small group counseling (grief, divorce, social skills, study skills, etc.)
  • Short term individual counseling
  • Community resource referrals
  • Conflict resolution
  • At-risk student identification and implementation to enhance student success
Classroom Connection Lessons are provided by a counselor on a monthly basis and and topics are determined based on grade level needs. 
Examples of previous lessons provided include: 
  • Introduction to the School Counselor
  • The importance of personal space
  • How to handle uncomfortable feelings: sadness, anger, fear etc.
  • Big problems versus small problems
  • Peaceful problem solving using Kelso's Choices
  • Using "I" Messages to talk it out
  • and more!
